NEW RECYCLING MANAGER FOR FAMILY FIRST

Family First has appointed Dilwyn Evans as Senior Service Manager for its recycling projects.

Dilwyn, of Nottingham, previously ran his own regeneration consultancy business, Edward Evans Associates, and was chief executive of environmental regeneration charity, Groundwork Trust in Nottinghamshire.

He will now head up Family First’s recycling team of staff and volunteers, manage its two warehouses and two charity shops and develop new services.

The charity currently has a fleet of six vans which travel around Nottinghamshire collecting donations of good quality, unwanted furniture such as sofas and beds, electrical items and children’s equipment like cots and pushchairs.

Essential items are then redistributed to people in need and non-essential items are sold in the charity’s two shops, Kilbourn Street, Nottingham, and Low Street, in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Family First, which manages almost 400 homes in Nottingham, developed the service to help tenants who are moving into a new home and cannot afford to buy even essential pieces of furniture such as a bed.

Patrick Taylor, Managing Director of Family First, said: “Dilwyn is our first Senior Service Manager dedicated to our recycling projects which shows Family First’s commitment to developing our services further. Dilwyn’s wealth of skills and experience means we can support even more people in Nottingham, while being kind to the environment and helping reduce fly-tipping.”

Dilwyn added: “I’m really looking forward to getting to grips with the challenges of the post. Since working with Family First I have realised how incredibly generous the people of Nottingham are - it is only with their support that we can provide this desperately needed service.”

Family First is part of the LHA-ASRA housing and regeneration group.

As well as its two charity shops, it also has a ‘charity department store’, believed to be the first of its kind in Britain. The store, which recently opened on Alfred Street North, has two floors full of furniture, clothes and bric-a-brac, arranged in departments so customers get the most out of their shopping experience.

Donations are always welcome. To arrange a collection of furniture call FREEPHONE 0800 013 0497.
