Family First NCASS donationFamily First is celebrating after receiving a generous donation from a group of local student accountants.

The Nottingham Chartered Accountants Student Society (NCASS) presented the charity – a leading provider of recycling, care and support services in Nottinghamshire - with £1,560 on Tuesday (24 February).

Holly Cope, Chair of the NCASS Committee, visited Family First’s Mayholme teenage parent accommodation, in Alexandra Park, to meet the residents and hand over the money which was raised at the students’ annual black-tie dinner in January.

Over 400 guests attended the fundraising event at the East Midlands Conference Centre on the University Park Campus, where a raffle was held in aid of the  charity, featuring luxury prizes such as champagne and spa breaks.

Yvonne Colebourne, Business Development Manager at Family First, said: “It was a wonderful evening and all the team at Family First would like to thank NCASS for its generous support.

“The money will be put to good use through our diverse range of services which help people in and around Nottingham, with a variety of needs, every day.”

Mayholme provides housing and support for vulnerable parents and parents-to-be, aged 16-20.

It has 11 furnished bedsits, a lounge with a soft play area and newly landscaped gardens which include accessible pathways, a children’s play area and sandpit, a sensory area, barbeque, and vegetable patch.

Holly Cope added: “As a Nottinghamshire based society ourselves, we wanted to help support local people. NCASS has selected Family First as our charity before and we are aware that the need for the resources, care and services they provide in Nottingham has not diminished, so we are pleased to support them again this year."

Family First also provides affordable housing, childcare, support for young people with mental health needs and a furniture recycling service

It currently has a fleet of six vans which travel around Nottinghamshire collecting donations of unwanted household items and white goods from the general public and businesses. These are then checked, cleaned and reconditioned, before being distributed where they are needed most by a team of 65 volunteers. There is an administration charge of £10 for the provision of furniture items.

Non-essential items and a selection of electrical goods are sold at low cost through the Family First charity shops, and income is reinvested in the service.

The two charity shops are on Alfred Street North in Nottingham and Low Street in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Donations of good quality household items, white goods and children’s equipment are always welcome. To arrange a collection of furniture call FREEPHONE 0800 013 0497.
